Superb Charles I English Oak Box Stool c.1640

A beautiful small 17th Century oak box stool made in around 1640.
The azed top with worn notched border and original hand forged iron twin hasp with rivetted lock plate.
The frieze on all four sides of the stool having deeply carved running pinwheels, notched corners and notched apron. Set on tubular ring turned legs united with original notched stretchers.
Some wear to the feet, an old depletion to front upper edge - so old that it has blended in and developed the same rich patination. Hinges are split pins and appear original also.
Really rich and superb colour and dark deep patina. Heavy and robust and usable.
Additional corner blocks added inside in each of the rear inner corners – added a very long time ago - and a small oak block added to rear face, probably to replace the original block which prevented the lid from falling backwards when open.
A fantastic and very rare little box stool of early form with notched detailing and bold carving in excellent original condition.
Dimensions are:
12.75 inches wide, 12.75 inches deep and 15.75 inches high
I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
