A Superb Mid Georgian oak cased 'cottage' longcase clock made by well regarded maker, Jonas Barber of Winster(Windermere). Brass dial with date aperture and trademark pigs tail to the 5.Engraved centre and decorative spandrels to the corners.Superb patina to the mid oak case with moulded cornice top and canted corners to the shaped door case.Standing on bracket feet. Strikes on a bell to the hour. Numbered 788 to the movement,c.1767. Stands 76"high.
Jonas Barber was one of the few clockmakers who numbered and listed his antique clocks. Some of these are listed in B.W.Cave-Browne-Cave's antique clock book. His trademark was a pigs tail to the 5'o antique clock. These antique clocks are highly sought after and rarely come onto the market.
