Superb pair of small Children's portraits
A lovely small pair of Scottish school oil on canvas portraits of children. The pair show a brother and sister dressed in dark formal clothes with a landscape background. The picture of the boy is so charming in his slightly too big clothes and the little girl has a lovely pair of green ribbons in her hair and coral necklace. The pair are mounted in the original untouched gilt frames. The pair are in good condition have been professionally cleaned and a tiny hole repaired in one. The frames have some slight minor losses but this adds to the look of straight out of a country house. The pair came originally from Scotland and have a very Scottish feel about them in style and setting. C.1840.
