Tavern clock Circa 1750 John Southey, Exeter

A very well documented, rare tavern clock by John Southey, Exeter Devon.
Often referred to as an Act Of Parliament clock.
The 54cm octagonal dial with Roman numeral chapter ring & Arabic five-minute markers again being most rare.
Recessed narrow trunk inscribed ‘Jno. Southey Exeter’
Boarded door with later lock & a painted panel showing figures on a riverbank, with a sailing vessel and distant buildings.
The stepped base with geometric motif, weight driven brass, 8-day movement.
The movement being beautifully clean showing professional restoration.
The clock is currently used as a most reliable time-piece. It runs for 8 days keeping excellent time.
The beat of the clock being of a good level and sounding even.
Recorded in Clive N. Ponsford, ‘Devon Clocks and Clockmakers’ (1985), p. 300.
The clock is hung securely from a single opening on the rear panel. It is secured from movement by a single screw to the back panel.
