Unsettling yet totally Captivating 'The Nightingale' Lithograph by Edmund Dulac for Hans Christian Andersen's Stories. Antique Lithograph. 1911.
Edmund Dulac (1882-1953) was a French British nautralised magazine illustrator, book illustrator and stamp and banknote designer. Born in Toulouse he studied Law but later turned to the study of Art at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. He moved to London in the early 20th Century and in 1905 received his first commission to illustrate the novels of the Bronte Sisters.
The very fine, intricate and VERY atmospheric lithograph offered here was printed in 1911 and even though it is now over 100 years old it offers mesmerising intricacy, create tremendous engagement and retain stunning visual power. The image is accompanied by a quote from the Hans Christian Andersen 'Snow Queen' story.
The lithograph has been mounted in a bespoke hand-made and hand-finished wooden black frame. The glass is museum quality with low reflection, vivid colour transparency and high UV absorption to protect this very fine work.
