Thomas Dyde, London 17th Century Lantern Clock

A 17th century English lantern antique clock by Thomas Dyde of London. A rare, very small example standing only 8 3/4" tall. A well engraved dial and surmounted by a cast bell. Side and rear opening doors and standing on turned feet. A later carriage clock type mechanism has been adapted to the clock (originally it would have been a weight driven mechanism). This strikes the hours on the bell and is of 8-day duration.
Thomas Dyde of London is documented in Loomes 'Lantern Clocks & Their Makers' book as working from 1662 and died in 1686. He was born in Worcestershire in 1635.
It is a great pity that it does not retain the original mechanism but this is still a chance to obtain a 17th century clock in a very original case at an affordable price.
Height 8 3/4" / 24cms Width 4" / 10cms (inc. chapter ring) Depth 3 1/2" / 9 cms
