Thomas Tayler Ireland Watercolour 19thC.
We are pleased to offer this large watercolour by the artist THOMAS TAYLER IRELAND, who has signed the painting T. Tayler Ireland in the lower left hand corner. There is a label verso from a Manchester Gallery that guarantees that the work is an original by this artist, which we have removed from the original old backing board. It also entitled the painting 'The River Teyne at Chagford, Devon'. The painting depicts the River Teyne running swiftly through the woods on a misty morning in Autumn. The woodland is composed of deciduous trees with many silver birches.
THOMAS TAYLER IRELAND was the son of Thomas Ireland and lived at the same address in London. Thomas Junior, was a landscape painter in both oil and watercolour in a style not dissimilar to that of his father, and he specialised in misty, wooded landscapes using a similar colour palette to that of the painting we are offering. He exhibited at the principal London galleries from 1880, mainly at the Royal Academy, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour and Suffolk Street.
Biographical information regarding this artist may be found in all the major artists reference books for this period and his auction results are available at artprice.com (112 listings), findartinfo.com (46) and artnet.com (18). Up to date results may be found in the current edition of Hislop's Guide to the UK Art Market, where his work frequently appears. His larger paintings fetch several hundreds of pounds.
The painting has been newly double mounted in two tone to complement and is newly framed in an antiqued gilt frame to suit. It is ready to hang.
