Top Quality English William IV Writing Slope c1830

A fabulous antique English writing slope, the quality evident in so many areas.
Made from a wonderful and exotic Ebony and complete with the most stunning and intricate Mother of Pearl inlay really quite superb quality beautifully executed and looking exquisite in contrast to the wood.
The box opens to reveal a leather writing slope with gold tooling. Another sign of quality is the fine pearl inlay to the inside, this would only be done on the finest examples.
There are two brass topped inkwells and a removable pen tray in Ebony. The interior of the box is completely lined in Satinwood with a very unusual removable Satinwood tray fitting into the top of half of the slope and further disguises the fact that this example has secret drawers.
The secret drawers are revealed once the sprung mechanism is pressed. The right hand side inkwell needs to be removed and the the divider to the left requires to be removed and the mechanism pressed underneath the sloped compartment. The Satinwood cover is then released revealing the three little secret drawers.
The bottom section is also lined in Satinwood and signed by the maker or retailer, " Lowe Bristol " (South West of England).
The flush brass campaign style handles are typical of the William IV period, the box dating to around 1830.
Excellent condition, measuring 15 1/2" x 9 1/2" x 6" tall. Complete with two keys (one for the box and one for the interior lock) stationery and pen not included in the sale.
