Trinity College Oxford Trophy Jug - 1877

This example has it all, not only is the quality outstanding, it is engraved for the world famous Trinity College of Oxford University, presented to a E F Cox in 1877 with a long list of his Athletic Sports achievements.
The wine or water jug or pitcher is quite stunning with a heavy cast Electrotype sleeve which features cherubs holding Tridents in the sea with Dolphins, presumably representing a young Neptune and I believe the figural spout to be Neptune. The casting in outstanding with copper highlights showing through the high points.
The handle is beautifully decorated and the top of the lid crowned with a finial in the form of a classic urn resembling a trophy.
Made from silver plate, the underside is signed by the silversmith H.B for Henry Bourne of Birmingham.
Excellent condition with the base having a diameter measuring 6 1/4", spanning 9" from spout to handle and standing 11" tall to top of finial.
