Triple Weight Grande Sonnierre Vienna Clock
It is a pleasure to offer a very fine Vienna wall antique clock by my personal favourate maker Wenzel Schonberger in Wein (Vienna) which is in lovely original condition and manufactured circa 1860 which is part of an important private collection that I am selling
This clock is genuine and original.It is one of the best examples of its type that I have seen.
This collection has taken over 30 years to obtain and contains several exceptional examples,one of which is listed here.
Austrian antique clocks such as this are entirely hand made and finished by time served master clockmaker's and should not be confused with the much cheaper mass produced German antique clocks.
Austrian clocks were only made for the most discerning customers (who could afford them) and took many months to complete individually.
Subsequently they are rare items and I have spent almost 30 years driving all over Europe to source these antique clocks,particularly the finer examples with originality being a paramount requirement.
Unfortunately there are too many people selling modern reproductions to customers.

As you can see from the photographs this is a very impressive clock which has been beautifully made from golden oak with fine carvings of flowers and leaves.All the original finish is present and the patina is perfect.
Wenzel Schonberger was the leading Viennese clockmaker of his era with his products being retailed in high class establishments in London,Paris and New York.I have seen many of his clocks over the years ,all of which are of superb quality but several examples he made were of the very finest quality,such as the example illustrated here.
Of course these clocks were expensive but he had no problem selling them to discerning clients.
The overall condition is outstanding being original and well looked after.
There is ,of course,the odd age related mark as you would expect on any item of this age but the condition is a good as anyone could possibly expect.
The hand made weight driven movement has dead beat escapement with a running duration of 8 days .It has a three train grand sonniere movement striking the quarters on two coiled gongs.There is a strike silent lever and pull repeat facility The 7 inch two piece dial is in super order save a hairline crack at 11 O'Clock and the blued steel hands are exceptional.
The movement has recently been serviced and is working perfectly
Very unusually for a Schonberger it has a subsidiary seconds dial
The sides of the case are glazed and the door has a lock.
The original winding crank is present.
Hopefully the images will show show interested parties all they need to see.
This clock is much nicer in the flesh and looks very impressive on the wall.Prospective buyers are encouraged to view this clock if at at possible
The clock is 56 inches in length and 16 at its widest point..The depth is 7 inches.
If the asking it now price is paid in full then I will deliver and set up the clock free of charge to the English mainland,Wales and the Scottish lowlands.I will also provide a 12 months guarantee under these circumstances.This is the same service that is provided by a high street retailer without the customer having to pay for the overheads
If a lesser off is accepted then this will be sold as a trade sale with the clock as described and with shipping costs the responsibility of the buyer.
