A very unusual oil on velum of a charging medieval knight in full armour. The work is painted on velum which is a medieval technique most normally associated with illuminated manuscripts. The scene shows a mounted knight at joust in full armour and colours, this is possibly copied from a much earlier work. The painting is mounted in a pitch pine frame, most likely the original and quite unusual in itself. The whole is in good condition, with the frame having a few dents. I am sure the painting is part of the great Gothic revival of the Victorian period when there was a flourishing in interest in all early crafts. C.1900.
