Unusual pair of Regency Period Mahogany Hall Chair

A very unusual pair of Regency Period Mahogany Hall Chairs, the octagonal moulded back splats with central lozenges and raised on panelled scrolls, the rectangular moulded edge tapered seats raised on ring turned horizontally sabred front legs and conforming square section tapered rear legs.
Circa 1815
H:32.75”,83.5 cms, W:16”,41 cms, D:14”,35.5 cms.
Note: Sabred legs are more usually seen on dining chairs, library chairs and salon chairs where the sabre points forward and backwards when on the rear legs. It is rare to see a pair of chairs as in this case where both front and back legs are sabred pointing to left and right. The sabred leg is always associated with being a feature of Regency antique furniture where it is viewed as a symbol of Great Britain’s naval supremacy and is sometimes referred to as a Trafalgar Leg after Nelson’s famous naval engagement.
