The painting depicts a half length portrait of a well dressed gentleman in a brown three piece suit, wearing spectacles and with his hand resting on a walking stick. Unfortunately, we do not know the identity of the sitter.

She studied at Hastings School of Science & Art and became a portrait painter, etcher and teacher at Gainsborough Studio at 25 Devonshire Road. She painted many local notables, including the first female Mayor of Hastings, and Aldermen, authors etc. and there are four of her portraits in the National Collection, three of which are in Hastings Museum and Art Gallery. These portraits can be viewed online at artUK.org. She exhibited 3 works at the London Salon in 1909 and also exhibited locally.
