Apple blossom and forget-me-not – the flowers in the centre of the brooch – were symbols of good fortune/promise and true love in Victorian times. So this brooch probably delivered the promise of true love to a special lady when she received it as a gift.
The brooch has lovely engraved details and bead decoration in the Aesthetic style.
It is fully hallmarked for Birmingham and year ‘1888’. The maker is William C. Manton.
