Victorian Aneroid Barometer by Negretti & Zambra

A super quality early Victorian brass cased aneroid desk barometer by Negretti & Zambra with carved oak case.
This early barometer has a four and a half inch silvered dial with extremely fine etched engraving and a two and a quarter inch depth. The dial reads for 25 to 31 inches of atmospheric pressure and is signed “Negretti & Zambra. London” with serial number “1678” and “Instrument Maker to Her Majesty” to the base.
The barometer is held within a carved gothic style oak case with blue velvet interior to protect the barometer and blue velvet to the base. It could of course be hung without the case by means of the suspension ring to the top.
Negretti & Zambra were a leading name in the production of meteorological and scientific instruments and have a company history dating back to 1850. Throughout their long and esteemed history they exhibited at British industrial fairs throughout and became makers to both Queen Victoria and Edward VII. Owing to changes in the business, the firm ceased the public retailing of scientific instruments sometime around the late 1960’s and continued with a focus on the aviation industry in numerous guises until its eventual liquidation in the year 2000.
A rare and early piece of Negretti & Zambra merchandise.
