Victorian Button-Backed Wing Armchair
This attractive wing armchair dates from around the middle of the nineteenth century. It is of excellent quality and is stamped W. Williamson & Sons Guildford in a couple of places on the underneath of the wooden base. The chair is button backed and has nice shape. It has a sprung base and a removable seat cushion. It is supported on what we believe to be a dark stained walnut base, although please note that we are not 100% sure of the wood type. The chair has attractive carved bulbous legs at the front and square swept legs at the back. The upholstery is relatively modern and has been professionally done. It is upholstered in a lilac draylon type material.
Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. The chair is solid and usuable. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, and a few areas of minor wood loss around the base. There are some signs of old restoration and repair. As is mentioned above the upholstery is fairly modern in date and is in good condition. There are no rips or tears, but it is overall faded with some discolouration and wear in places. There is a stain at the top.
