Victorian Circular Mahogany Extending Dining Table

A rare Victorian extending pedestal dining table in solid mahogany with four original leaves and a leaf holder to store them in. Unusually this table stands on two turned pedestal columns each with two scrolling cabriole legs and brass castors (meaning no legs to get in the way of chairs). With a circular top when closed with moulded edge and plain apron, a winding screw mechanism smoothly extends the table from 4ft 7 to just over 11ft allowing the additional leaves to be added to comfortably seat up to 10-12 people. The leaf holder takes the form of a whatnot with six shelves supported by ring turned supports and a solid cupboard back with a door to the right side for the leaves.
Both with super figuring to the timbers and in good sound original condition. As this has not been repolished the ends of the table and some leaves are faded, however, repolishing could be arranged if preferred. There are old dark scratches and a water spot to the top and one leaf has a long scrape on it. The leaves are all originally marked with Roman numbers to the sides to indicate the original order for their insertion. The leaf holder is also in original condition and not having been repolished has watermarks to the shelves.
Length extended - 11ft 2 ½in (341.5cm)
Length closed - 4ft 7in / 55in (140cm)
Width - 4ft 7 ½in / 55 ½in (141cm)
Height - 28 ¼in (71.5cm)
Leaves - each 19 ¾in (50cm)
Leaf holder - 24 ¾in wide x 20in deep x 63 ½in high (63cm x 51cm x 161.5cm)
