Victorian Goffering Iron. Italian, Tally, Iron.
This is a Victorian period antique goffering iron, also called an 'Italian' or 'Tally' Iron.
It is made of cast iron and would have been heated by inserting a poker and used to iron or flatten cuffs, collars and ruffles on clothing.
This one is in excellent condition and is stamped indistinctly on the base 'KENRICK'
Archibald Kenrick began manufacturing cast iron articles at his iron foundry in West Bromwich in 1791.
The company is still in existence today, producing, amongst other things, locks and fittings for windows.
Measurements:
