Victorian Hand-Finished Portrait on Porcelain
We believe this to be a transfer-printed photograph onto porcelain that has been hand-finished. The subject is a Victorian gentleman. There are no signatures or title plaques, but there is a label on the back of the frame stating: 'Graham's Highly-Finished Porcelain Portraits can be painted from any photograph. This porcelain picture is guaranteed to be permanent.' The label is dated 1884. The plaque retains its original mount and glazed gilt frame with plaster / gesso decoration, however this is badly damaged.
Condition: Overall in fair condition. The plaque is discoloured with age. The frame is badly damaged. It is cracked at the bottom where it looks to have been dropped at some point and has significant areas of chipping and loss. It has been touched up in places. The frame is grubby and would benefit from a clean.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
Plaque - 25.5cm by 20.5cm
