Victorian Inlaid Mahogany Oval Occasional Table
This attractive oval side table is a made-up piece. The top is not original to the base, although both are about the same age. The tripod base would orginally have been on a piano stool, and this has been fitted to the top, which can be raised and lowered by twisting it. Both parts date from c.1880s. The top is quarter-veneered with lovely decorative satinwood inlays.
Condition: Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition with some wear consistent with age and use. As is mentioned above the piece has been made up at some point and the top is not original to the base. There is some scuffing and wear to the woodwork as might be expected and the piece is overall a little faded. There is some shrinkage cracking to the veneers on the top, which has lifted them in places. There is some minor loss to the veneer in places and some signs of old repair. The top has some scratching and minor indentation and there is some knocking around the edges.
