Victorian Iron Bound Stained Pine Trunk
This attractive antique trunk dates from c.1860. It has a VR Patent stamp to the keyhole cover of the lock. The trunk is constructed from stained pine and is bound in iron. It is of a nice small size and would make a nice coffee table. The trunk retains what we believe to be its original catch, lock and escutcheon (although they appear to have been moved at some point), but please note that no key is present. It also retains its original carrying handle at either side. The supporting chain on the inside is a modern replacement.
Condition Overall this handsome piece is in good usuable condition, with some wear consistent with age and use. There is some scuffing, knocking and wear to the woodwork as might be expected, which is heavier in places, and the piece is overall a little faded. There is some wood shrinkage cracking to the top of the trunk. The metalwork has some surface corrosion. As is mentioned above there is no key present and the supporting chain inside is a modern replacement.
