Victorian Liverpool ship builder's half block model

ENGLISH LIVERPOOL SHIP BUILDER'S HALF-BLOCK MODEL
ROB HALL ANTIQUES
A Victorian ship builder's half block model. The original pencil marks can still be seen on the hull with an indistinct date of "2/6/9-" The colour in the hull is very good and there is some indistinct writing in pencil - possibly the ship's name but we have been unable to decipher. Half hull model ships were constructed by shipwrights as a means of planning a ship's design and sheer and ensuring that the ship would be symmetrical. The half hulls were mounted on a board and were exact scale replicas of the actual ship's hull.
Provenance It had been displayed in a carpenter's workshop, prior to this had originally been acquired it from a Liverpool shipbuilder's yard
Overall panel 41" wide
Late 19th century
