Victorian Oak Chair by John Taylor & Sons Edinburgh


A good quality antique Victorian oak framed chair by John Taylor and sons of Edinburgh dating from circa 1880. With upholstered back and stuffover seat it stands on carved legs to the front with good quality original brass castors and shaped legs to the back. Underneath the seat rail is stamped with makers name. Very comfortable, traditionally upholstered, would make a great desk chair or dressing table chair.
Established in 1825 in Edinburgh, John Taylor and Sons were renowned cabinet makers producing high quality antique furniture to the latest designs using the finest timbers. In 1852 they were appointed cabinet Makers to her Majesty the Queen. One of the largest cabinet makers in Scotland in the 19th century employing nearly 300 people at their height, the company eventually closed its doors in 1945.

Good condition, with good colour and patina to the oak frame. Solid and sturdy with wear and marks commensurate with age. Recently recovered over existing upholstery which is sound.
