Victorian Painted Wood Post Office Savings Bank
The English Post Office Savings Bank was set up in 1861 by the Palmerston government, a simple savings scheme aiming to encourage ordinary wage earners "to provide for themselves against adversity and ill health".
I would guess that these simple turned wood and painted boxes were given to promote saving. The box is in the form of a Victorian Post Box painted in red with decoupaged labels.
A charming little collectable in excellent condition measuring 3" in diameter x 4 3/4" tall.
