This is a great larger sized Victorian pine kitchen or dining table dating to the Victorian period. It is slightly different to most in that it has an integral bread board which adds a further 60cm to the length and just pulls out at one end. These used to be quite common in Victorian days but a lot were broken so you don’t see many of them now. The table top is made of nice wide planks with a straight edge and rounded corners. The table has a plain skirt and sits on nicely turned legs. The table is a lovely colour, this only comes with use and it has a golden glow. There are signs of its life so please look at the pictures carefully, it’s patina is its joy but if you like new and pristine it may not be for you. This shows that it has lived a life, in a good way. The top has been stripped and refinished here as it had been given a coat of nasty orange varnish which was peeling away in parts. It has been sanded smooth and given a coat of wax so it has a sheen. We haven’t stripped the base as it didn’t need it, the previous owners had only varnished the top. Please note that the bread board part of the table is pitch pine, this is a denser pine and was often used for more utility things. This means it is naturally a slightly darker colour and more pronounced grain than the table top and base, which is normal pine. The bread board pulls out from one end and is supported by the table top. Although it extends to 60cm it is best to leave some of its length under the table if you are going to place a significant weight on it. To eat a meal, or for normal use its fine, but for example it wouldn’t support someone sitting on it as it has no support other than the counterbalance of the section which remains under the table. This is why the bread boards are quite rare these days, people put too much weight on them whilst fully extended. Half extended it will support quite a bit.

The table is in good condition, the top is secure on the base and the legs are firm. It stands well with no looseness or wobbles. The bread board pulls out and slides back easily and is in good order.

The table measures 150cm long x 97cm deep x 73cm tall. Floor to apron (chair and leg space) it is 58cm. The bread board measures 59cm long x 82cm. Please note that unlike some modern antique tables the legs do not come off.
