Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian rosewood chaise longue, made by H. Goodall & Sons of Newcastle, Staffordshire, circa 1860, in excellent condition.

Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian rosewood chaise longue, made by H. Goodall & Sons of Newcastle, Staffordshire, circa 1860, in excellent condition. The chaise boasts (when facing) a left-hand raised sweeping upholstered arm. The arm, which is deep buttoned, has a ruched fascia, embellished with button and cream cord. The moulded back frame sweeps down, which is also deep buttoned, terminates at the base of the sprung stuff-over seat. The front of the chaise has a straight moulded reeded frieze. The chaise has been newly upholstered with a top quality floral silk damask material in a biscuit / oatmeal colour, interspersed with wine and cream silk floral upholstery and finished with cream braiding. The chaise stands on its original baluster tulip shaped legs and boasts the original brass and porcelain castors. The up-swept arm and backrest are solid in joint.
This chaise features a mellow rosewood colour. It has a fantastic colour and patination this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. It is impossible to re-create this colour if it has been re-polished.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms, especially the living room or bedroom. The item would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional.

H. Goodall & Sons of Newcastle of Staffordshire were a highly esteemed & respected family cabinetmaking business in their time. They produced top quality antique furniture during the Victorian and Edwardian period. Their main customer base was Staffordshire and the Midlands but they also sold furniture further afield.
Condition Report:
The chaise longue frame is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the rosewood frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. There are no missing carvings or mouldings to the frame. The chaise has been newly upholstered with a top quality floral silk damask material in a biscuit / oatmeal colour, interspersed with wine and cream silk floral upholstery. The chaise stands on its original rosewood legs, with the original brass and porcelain castors. The chaise longue is well constructed, it is solid in joint and ready to use.
