Victorian Set of Four Mahogany Balloon-Back Chairs
This set of four antique balloon-back chairs date from c.1870. Please note that they are in need of restoration. The chairs have solid mahogany frames with shaped tapering legs at the front and rounded balloon backs. The chairs have swept back legs. They have serpentine-fronted seats and drop-in seats with later needwork upholstery. The chair seats all have different needlework.
Condition: Overall this handsome set of of chairs are in need of restoration. The joints are loose. The tops of the back rests are all loose and broken to varying degrees, and one is only held together with tape. The wooden frames are scuffed, grubby and worn and would benefit from being repaired and repolished. The needlework seats are dated and faded and one has some holing. They have some signs of old restoration and repair - metal brackets have been fitted to the back rests on two of the chairs.
