Victorian Silver Plate 4 Pce Tea Set, Elkington

Here we have a handsome late Victorian Silver Plate Four Piece Tea Set. The set consists of a teapot, a hot water jug, a sugar bowl and a cream jug. Each piece is oval with a part wrythen reeded body. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.
The tea set was made in Birmimgham by the world famous company Elkington & Co and dates to between 1890 and 1893. Elkington & Co are one of the great names of English silverware. Founded by George Elkington in 1836, they took out the world's first silver electroplating patent in 1838 and this is what they are best known for. However they always continued to produce very high quality Sterling Silver alongside their silver plate. The company was merged into British Silverware with Walker & Hall and Mappin & Webb in 1963.
Condition is good, with just a slight shalow bruise to one side of the body on the hot water jug, no significant plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after over 130 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Both the teapot and the hot water jug have a capacity of 852ml / 1.5pts. The teapot is 24cm / 9.4ins from spout to handle, 10.5cm / 4.1ins across and 14cm / 5.5ins high. The hot water jug is 16cm / 6.3ins from lip to handle, 7.8cm / 3.1ins across and 18.7cm / 7.3ins high. The sugar bowl is 16cm / 6.3ins from handle to handle, 7.2cm / 2.8ins across and 8.3cm / 3.2ins high. The cream jug is 10cm / 3.9ins from lip to handle, 4.8cm / 1.9ins across and 8.3cm / 3.2ins high. The four piece set weighs in at 1.29kg / 45.5oz.
The underside of each piece is stamped E & Co below a crown, Elkington & Co and has the date letter E for 1890 on the teapot, F for 1891 on the cream jug, G for 1892 on the sugar bowl and H for 1893 on the hotwater jug. They all have the product number 18711, confirming that they are a set.
