Victorian Silver Plate Small Ewer, c.1850s/60s

This is a fine quality small Victorian Silver Plate Ewer in the classical style. The ewer has a circular foot with a beaded rim and engraved decoration. There are two further bands of beading and decoration at the top of the body and around the rim of the ewer and beading down the outside of the scroll handle. The interior is gilded and the initials M H are elegantly engraved on the underside of the base.
The ewer could be used for an individual serving of water or wine at the dining table or as a cream jug at teatime.
There is no makers' mark, so we are unable to say who manufactured the jug but stylistically both the ewer and the engraving date to around the 1850s/60s.
Condition is very good, with just one tiny patch of plate loss high up on the body plus the superficial surface wear that has to be anticipated after over 150 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The ewer is 7cm / 2.7ins from lip to handle, 6cm / 2.3ins across the body and stands 14cm / 5.5ins high. It weighs in at 160.3g / 5.6oz.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail Tracked 24.
