This is a lovely, lovely 19th century Sorrento ware perfume tray. The central section is made of bird’s eye maple with painted figures of cherubs and a fairy sitting and drinking from a bowl. On the far right and left are traditional Italian design motifs painted onto a dark brown boackgound. And around the borders is an amazing micro mosaic of a dragon amongst foliage. On the outside of the tray is another micro mosaic border of a repeating diamond pattern. The quality of craftsmanship of this tray is excellent.
