Victorian Sterling Silver Locket And Necklace 1866
The most delightful Victorian sterling silver locket and necklace which was crafted in 1866. This splendid fully hallmarked sterling silver Victorian photo locket is attached to the original articulated sterling silver collar necklace. The piece is in such good condition that we are not sure if it has ever been worn. It is simply stunning and it is the finest example we have seen to date. The front is graced with a single engraved forget-me-not surrounded by ornate scrollwork. The outer edge of the locket is decorated with petal like structures with repoussage highly stylized ivy leaves.
The Victorians loved the symbolism of plants. The forget-me-nots relevance is obvious. Ivy symbolises fidelity, friendship and eternity. Such a romantic gift! Ideal as a 25th wedding anniversary gift.
The meticulous attention to detail has created a breathtaking beauty. Every single link of the collar necklace is adorned with a forget-me-not, leaves and orbs. The whole item is in superb condition. This piece has been professionally cleaned. There aren't any dings, dents or signs of damage. The locket snaps shut firmly. The secure ring clasp works perfectly. The frames and photo windows are present and so this beautiful Victorian antique can hold two photographs.The photo windows appear to be replacements.

The maker's mark is easy to read - L BRS - for Loach Brothers. The Birmingham assay mark and sterling mark visible. The date year under a powerful loupe appears to be an upper case R in a square cartouche with chamfered edges for 1866.
The case is super - beautiful black leather clad exterior and the interior is lined with crimson velvet and white silk. The clasps work perfectly.
