Victorian Walnut Library Easy Chair

Victorian walnut library easy chair
This Victorian walnut library easy chair has just been re-upholstered in a light grey tweed material.
The chair frame probably was made and retailed by Holland & co or James Shoolbred. These companies were prominent and important cabinetmakers in the day, the design and quality points to this by one of these.
The show wood all solid walnut.
The back with dipped shoulders, multi deep buttons to the back , and a good lumber support at the seat.
The seat being of a very good length.
To each side of the seat are the very comfortable swept armrests, that are supported by turned walnut supports.
Imagine when this chair was first made, the owner who would have been from the professional classes, reading the news of the day. Could it have been news of the Great fog that engulfed London for 3 months, the first shipment of frozen mutton from Australia, the first cricket Test match held in Britain, or the Boars declaring independence in the Transvaal and so triggering the Boar War.
