Vintage Brass Jug with Cross on Lid
This attractive brass jug was probably once silver plated, but the plating has worn away leaving a mostly brass finish. It has soldered applied decoration to the body and there is a three-dimensional cross to the lid, similar in style to a Maltese cross. It is of lovely quality. We believe the piece to be of European origins and to date from the first half of the twentieth century.
Condition: Overall in good condition with some wear consistent with age and use. We believe that the piece would originally have been silver-plated, but the plating has worn away leaving a brass finish. There is some solder visible to the applied decoration and to the back of the jug - we believe this to be from the time of manufacture, but the jug may have had some repair at some point. There is some cracking to the back of the jug and to the neck - again this may have been done at the time of manufacture, or could be subsequent damage. The cross on the top of the lid is slightly misshapen.
The approx. measurements are as follows:
27cm high, 12cm long (handle to spout), 4.5cm diameter of top. Further images are available. Please don't hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Viewing is welcome, but please contact us before travelling as we are only open by appointment.
We can arrange delivery of both smaller items and furniture - please contact us for details and a quote. Customers are also welcome to use their own couriers if preferred.
Payment can be made by PayPal, bank transfer, cheque [UK only], and cash on collection.
