Vintage compacts for sale Stratton 'STAR' powder compact in the shape of a suitcase birthday bridesmaids party gifts

A vintage Stratton 'Star' powder compact. The defining feature is its rectangular shape with chopped corners. This gleaming goldtone example is in perfect working order. The inner lid is signed 'Stratton' & bears the 'Compact-in-Hand' logo. This logo shows this compact is fitted with an automatic opening inner lid when the mirror is tilted back & works perfectly every time. The mirror is very
good and the mirror bezel is marked "STRATTON PAT NO 530653 MADE IN ENGLAND".
Patent numbers are also given these are 530653 this patent dates to December 1940. The patent was granted to Jarrett, Rainsford and Laughton (owners of the Stratton brand) and they relate to improvements in the catch mechanisms. Patent number 530653 is inscribed not only on the mirror frame, but also on the catch of the powder compartment door, and underneath the main catch at the front of the compact. The case is marked PAT. No 607648 .Within the powder compartment is the original powder sifter which means this compact may still be used with loose powder.

This vintage Stratton powder compact measures 7 cm & weighs 84 grams.
