an outstanding walnut veneered 8 day longcase clock with rocking ship automaton.
this fine antique clock by martin hall, yarmouth, with brass dial, silvered chapter ring, subsidiary seconds dial and date aperture, the arch with a rocking ship automaton of the royal george.
The Royal George was the illustrious flag ship of admiral hawke, a 100 gun royal naval vessel launched in 1756 and saw active service during the seven years war, she sank in 1782 with the loss of more than 800 lives, perhaps this clock was made as a memorial to those who perished.
the slim case in beautifully figured walnut has reeded canted corners and arched door with decorative brass escutcheon.
the 8 day movement strikes the hour on a bell.
this truly is a magnificent clock in very good condition, a fine example of an automaton antique clock.
