Waring and Gillow Art Deco, burr maple Tallboy
This is a very good tallboy chest. It was made by Waring and Gillow in the 1930s and is excellent quality and would have cost a fortune new. I am also selling the matching dressing table so do check out my other listings.
The tallboy looks to be made in burr maple. It is a very exotic looking wood and maybe too exotic to be burr walnut. This tallboy is beautiful. It stands on four pretty cabriole legs. Look how opulent the burr maple panels are to the door and to the top. The doors retain their original modernist metal door pull and lock. Inside the chest is beautifully fitted. The top shelf is divided for socks etc and the larger shelves would be ideal for bulkier items such as bedding or jumpers.
This is a good quality period tallboy. It is small and neat so won't overpower your space but will hold a lot of clothing or bedding. It would look good in a bedroom furnished in period antiques or Mid Century Modern or classically Art Deco antique furniture.
The tallboy is in good condition for age. Fading to doors to a mellow golden colour.
The tallboy is 32 inches wide and 46 inches high and 17 inches deep.
