Good quality Regency 8" mahogany wheel barometer by noted London makers Watkins & Hill.
The ebony strung case is veneered in figured flame mahogany and fitted with a swan neck pediment. The detachable bow fronted thermometer box contains a long mercury thermometer with an engraved and silvered scale. The silvered 8" dial is well engraved with the maker's name and address, 'Watkins & Hill, 5 Charing Cross, London'.
Watkins & Hill was a partnership formed in 1819 between Jeremiah Watkins and Hill, they worked from 5 Charing Cross until 1857 when the business was taken over by Elliot Brothers.
