Welsh Oak Bread & Cheese Cupboard.

Beautiful piece of vernacular Georgian Welsh country antique furniture in the shape of this splendid oak cupboard c.1800. Unique to the extreme North West of Wales these tall single-piece cupboards with their distinctive ventilation panels were intended for the storage of kitchen ingredients and are commonly referred to as ‘cwpwrdd bara caws’ or bread and cheese cupboards.
An exceptional example of the form here with an unusual cornice featuring decorative carved and fruitwood inlaid detail. Two door top with fretwork ventilation panels in the stretched ‘diamond and dot’ pattern typical of furniture produced around the market town of Llangefni on the isle of Anglesey. With two small drawers in the waist and a single door cupboard in the base. The brass knobs would appear to be period replacements. Excellent colour and condition, cleaned restored and polished in our workshops. Keys supplied. Please contact us for more images, delivery and shipping quotes. Alternatively you are welcome to view and collect at our large warehouse showroom in Llandudno Junction, North Wales (approximately 45mins from Chester). We have a large and ever changing selection of genuine good quality antique furniture of all types and have twice been shortlisted for the Home and Antiques Magazine Antique Shop of the Year Award. 01492 580022.
