Welsh Oak Dog Kennel Dresser Sideboard 19thC
A truly exceptional Cardiganshire Welsh Oak “Dog Kennel” Dresser Base of desirable form c1870. One of the prettiest examples of a dresser from this region that we have seen, featuring a wonderfully shaped kennel pelmet and lower apron which is rarely seen.
Condition is faultless, completely original throughout with not a dowel or nail out of place, the colour, patina and surface are just lovely . It stands at full original height, superbly solid and sturdy and stands level and true. Original wooden knobs complete the cupboard doors and drawers which run smoothly and are all clean inside.
A superb example of a Welsh dresser base in every aspect. Whilst commonly referred to as “dog kennel” dressers the space or “Cwtch as it is known in welsh was traditionally used to house the family sewing machine which often had a curved hooded case.
This fantastic dresser would be perfect for any room or hallway offering superb storage and display surface that would even work well for a TV or dressing mirror.
Length 5ft = 154cm. Height 3ft 2” = 96cm. Depth 17” = 44cm.
