A large Welsh Sycamore dairy bowl 16 1/2" along the grain and 15 3/4" across the grain showing slight shrinkage over its lifetime. Quite normal when turned before fully seasoned, showing fully the lathe marks on the surface. Two deeper sets of incised lines outside the bowl and a single line on the edge of the rim. It has a gorgeous golden honey colour and the smooth patination of antique sycamore. With nine age-old beetle holes low in the bowl I treated the worm thoroughly just for peace of mind. There are no cracks or splits whatsoever but the base has suffered from prolonged dampness, possibly from long usage and after washing perhaps put back on its shelf still wet. This in no way detracts from its beauty and the bowl is as robust as it ever was.
