Whytock & Reid Glazed Bookcase

Circa 1900, exhibition quality freestanding glazed bookcase by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh. The bookcase has a rectangular mahogany top which is rounded at the front and crossbanded. Beneath the top is an ogee moulding and there are three shaped drawers which are veneered at 45 degrees almost in the form of parquetry. Each of the drawers have a small stylish bronze handle and the locks are all by Langebear & Co of Birmingham, with the original key is present. Beneath this are four glazed doors with crossbanded frames and again with the original locks and keys. The doors are in pairs and inside each are 3 solid mahogany adjustable shelves. The sides of the bookcase are shaped at the top and crossbanded and have a parquetry panel down the centre similar to the drawer fronts. The fore edge is chamfered and has horizontal crossbanding. Beneath the doors is a curved apron with a dip in the centre front and all stands on four typical Whytock & Reid/Lorimer cabriole feet. Good colour and condition.
