William H. Howe (1928-2009) - Moth Beauties From..

An exquisite acrylic on canvas depicting an Ophideres spp. Moth and a Green Page Moth by William H. Howe (American, 1928-2009). Signed lower right. Titled and dated 1985 verso.
Howe was an artist and amateur lepidopterist with a bachelor's degree in biology. He is known for his detailed illustrations of butterflies and moths. His notable works include 'Our Butterflies and Moths' (1964) and 'The Butterflies of North America'(1975).
This original acrylic displays all the hallmarks of Howe's meticulous attention to detail. The work is housed in an earlier gilt frame. There are two small protrusions to the mount where the hanging wire has been placed, but overall the work remains in a very good and attractive condition throughout.
