William IV Rosewood Pietra Dura Table
A fabulous rare William IV Rosewood Pietra Dura occasional Table . This really needs to be seen to be appreciated. This was purchased from a country house sale.
The rosewood twisted column base oozes character and quality. The three tripod feet in the form of a dolphin make this a very stable table. The legs are capped with a petal carved collier.
The pietra dura marble top showcases 22 egg shaped specimen marbles all set into a black marble back ground. These items were often gathered on young gentlemen's grand tours of Europe to express wealth. The top is encased in a rosewood hexagonal surround with a quality brass detailed trim below. This is a superb piece of Willian IV furniture and has fantastic proportions.
