William IV Rosewood Tea Table by J Kendell & Co

A quality William IV rosewood tea table c1835. Octagonal tapering central pedestal leading to a quadriform base raised on bun feet with blind castors. Classic William IV restraint in its design giving this table a simple but very elegant look. Fold-over top which opens to double the size of the table. The table has a beautiful aged patina and colour which is retained. Made by J Kendell & Co with label to underside. The table is 73.5 cm in height, its top when folded measuring 91.5 cm in width and 45 cm depth (when opened measures 91.5 cm x 90 cm).
This table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Opens smoothly. Pedestal is solid. Historic knocks, marks and wear as to be expected with genuine antique furniture. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
J Kendell & Co were renown cabinet makers based in Leeds, Yorkshire. John Kendell established the firm c1783 and is listed in the G.Beard & C.Gilbert Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840, as an important Leeds maker. The firm was incorporated in 1822 – subsequently trading as J Kendell & Co. From the 1830’s J Kendell & Co introduced a system of labelling their antique furniture. Their printed paper label is on the underside of the table top and is marked in ink with the name of the “workman” (W Parker) who made the table. In 1863 J Kendell & Co was taken over by the well regarded firm of Marsh and Jones, later to be called by their better known name Marsh, Jones and Cribb. J Kendell & Co is known to have worked for the Earl of Harewood at Harewood House. Viewing welcomed - please contact us in advance.
