William Manners RBA 19thC. Watercolour

We are delighted to offer for sale this serene watercolour by the artist WILLIAM MANNERS R.B.A, who has signed the painting W. Manners in the lower left hand corner. The painting depicts a scene of travellers on a country road with the moon just rising. There is a man leading a horse, with a dog alongside, and another figure with a child walking next to them. Unfortunately, we are unaware of the location.
WILLIAM MANNERS, R.B.A. 1860-1930, who flourished circa 1885-1910, was a landscape painter in both oil and watercolour. He was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Artists in 1893. He exhibited 3 works at the Royal Academy, entitled 'The Sun's Last Gleam', 'Homewards' and 'Among the Yorkshire Hills'. He also exhibited 2 works at the Royal Scottish Academy, 18 at the Walker Gallery in Liverpool, 10 at the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, 2 at Manchester City Art Gallery and 41 at the Royal Society of British Artists. He was born in Bradford and lived in Otley, Shipley, Crosshills and Sutton Coldfield, before moving to Westmoreland and the Lake District.
