Description

A handsome antique Regency mahogany Trafalgar open armchair or desk chair dating from circa 1810, ex York Minster. With rope twist centre rail and reeded down-swept arms with turned supports and standing on turned legs to the front and sabre legs to the back. The drop-in seat has been fairly recently upholstered in a red leather. Solid and sturdy, it would make a wonderful desk chair.

This chair was purchased from York Minster, and was in St Williams College. Founded in 1460, St William’s College is a Mediaeval building in York, England, originally built to provide accommodation for priests attached to chantry chapels at nearby York Minster.

Solid and sturdy, recently upholstered in red leather. Good colour and patina. A well-executed solid old repair to the leg. Other wear and marks commensurate with age.
