A truly wonderful early english oak church offeratory box

Dated 1663 ,but i believe the box to be 16th century and the date carved to signify when the lid was replaced.

The box is of a dug out construction ,with a small compartment inside.

As you can see it has had a hard life what with beetle damage to the side and added support for the hinges,the front left hand corner is repaired whith what looks like the same timber ,i presume this is whith a piece from the post it was on.

A rare find and a quirky addition to any collection
