Description

17th century carved oak bible box on original stand.

It is rare to find an original box and stand ,they are usually associated so it is with great pleasure that i can offer this example.

West Country origin the front carved with S-scroll design ,plain sides and back on a stand with a single drawer with cushion mouldings over turned baluster legs united by a box stretcher.

Great colour and glass like patina,there is a piece missing in the top block of the rear leg ,i have left this as to keep this piece as original and untouched as possible,it is still solid and sturdy .

The box has now been nailed to the base from the internal corners of the box ,i would estimate this was done around the early 1800's as the blacksmith made rose head nails show oxidisation.
