Vintage A.G.V Italian motor cycle helmet. Double marked with the code 2001/56 and the BSI kie mark - the former surely denoting its year of manufacture to be 1956. AGV was founded in 1947 by Amisano Gino (1920–2009). The company name is the initials for Amisano Gino Valenza, Amisano's name and Valenza, the place the company was based.
AGV initially made leather seats and motorcycle saddles, adding leather motorcycle helmets. Helmet production came to the fore for AGV when they started making fiberglass helmets in 1954. This was when AGV began making sponsorship deals with motorcycle racers such as the Italian champion Giacomo Agostini.
In the 1970s AGV began sponsoring Formula One drivers such as Niki Lauda, Emerson Fittipaldi and Nelson Piquet.
This example from their earlier years has a good, original and clean interior whilst externally it has marks and wear commensurate with sustained use.
