Description

Here we have for sale an exceptionally fine quality George III period silver sugar basket by the renowned Hennell family of silversmiths who were founded in 1736 by David Hennell, this basket was produced by his son Robert Hennell & Grandson David Henell II and exudes quality.

The basket with glass liner is of navette form on an oval swept pedestal foot, and has a hand applied reeded border with matching swing handle, the body of the basket has hand pierced decoration with particularly delicate swags & bows, and fine hand engraving with cartouches. One of the cartouches is engraved with the crest of Sir John Kennedy 1st Baronet Kennedy, of Johnstown Kennedy 1785-1848. The basket has a period clear glass liner.

Condition Report:

In fine condition for its age with some age of 220 years with age related surface scratches and marks. A possible tiny repair just under the handle which has has been done to an extremely high standard, the handle itself is unmarked but swings perfectly, slight impression of base and cartouches can be seen from the inside,the glass liner is in very good order, however, there is the odd fleabite chip.
